Cyclopath: A Geographic Wiki for Cyclists
Thursday, 12 November 2009, 08:30 to 09:30
Location: 100 Murphy Hall [map]
Loren Terveen, associate professor in computer science, will discuss his project, Cyclopath, a popular resource for the Twin Cities bicycling community. It’s also a powerful research platform for GroupLens, a research unit in the U’s computer science department.
Cyclopath is:
- The world’s first full geographic wiki edited by bicyclists.
- Like Mapquest or Google Maps in that it generates routes for bicyclists.
- Tailored to bicyclists individual transportation preferences and routes.
- Updated by cyclists who share and report on bike trails and cycling conditions.
Terveen will discuss the Cyclopath system design, usage, and the research projects associated with it. His research interests include a variety of topics in human-computer interaction and social computing.
